The designer said the dress is a nod to Trump's personal style
First Lady Melania Trump collaborated with designer Hervé Pierre on the gown she wore at Friday’s inaugural balls, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
The cream off-the-shoulder gown featured a side slit and thin red ribbon that met at the waist, WWD reports. The designer said in a statement that he was honored to design a gown for the First Lady, noting he had dressed each First Lady dating back to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton but said Mrs. Trump was the first he’d dressed under his own name.
“It’s an honor to dress the First Lady,” Pierre said, adding that he was also honored to have dressed the previous First Ladies. “I feel lucky and honored to dress Melania Trump, but this time under my name.”
The designer said the dress is a nod to Trump’s personal style—the tailored, unfussy, clean lines are representative of looks Mrs. Trump is drawn to.
“She knows what she likes. Our conversations were, and are, very easy. She knows about fashion, as a former model,” Pierre said. “She is aware about constructions, so we have already the same vocabulary when it comes to designing a dress.”
