How to Use Apple’s Powerful New Portrait Mode Camera Feature

Portrait mode helps capture amazing images of your friends and family

Apple on Monday is rolling out an iPhone software update with Portrait Mode, a new camera feature for the iPhone 7 Plus.

Portrait Mode uses the larger iPhone 7’s dual-camera system to capture images that make the subject appear sharp against a slightly blurred background. The feature is meant to simulate the depth-of-field effect that larger cameras are able to produce, typically used by photographers to isolate a subject from its background.

Apple says the version of Portrait Mode launching Monday is still in beta, meaning the company will continue to improve it over time. Check out the video above to learn more about using Portrait Mode on Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus.
