Chelsea Clinton introduced Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention, telling personal stories about her mother Hillary Clinton, describing her mom as a caring grandmother with a deep love of family who understands what it means “to be smiled on by fate.”
“I’m here as a proud American, a proud Democrat, a proud mother and tonight, in particular, a very, very proud daughter,” Chelsea said. “My earliest memory is my mom picking me up, after I’d fallen down, giving me a big hug and reading me Goodnight Moon.”
No matter what happened in her life, Chelsea said her mother was always there for her.
“Whenever my mom was away for work … she left notes for me to open for each day she was gone,” Chelsea said. “I treasured each and every one of those notes. They were another reminder that I was always in her thoughts and in her heart.”
She said her mother taught her “public service is about service” and rattled off the reasons Hillary’s policy stances on LGBT rights, gun reform, climate change and other issues. “I’m voting for a fighter who never, ever gives up,” Chelsea said, closing with, “Mom, Grandma would be so, so proud of you tonight.”
