American Who Joined ISIS Says It Was ‘the Worst Decision’ of His Life

"It's obviously the worst decision I've ever made in my life"

A New York City Man who joined ISIS overseas and returned to the United States after five months called his choice to join the terrorist organization “the worst decision” of his life.

The man, identified only as Mo, sat down with NBC News as part of a series of interviews, with the entire segment set to air Sunday on Dateline‘s “On Assignment.”

In the interview, Mo recounts his journey in detail, ultimately rebuking the group and agreeing to share his story in hopes of deterring others from joining. “It’s obviously the worst decision I’ve ever made in my life,” he told NBC of his time with ISIS. “I’m helping in every sense that I can to help rid the world of the evil that I saw. And it’s an arrow in my quiver every time I help.”
