The Surprising Political Photographs of the Week

TIME recaps political photography in the week of April 8-14

The scene is unusual. As President Barack Obama reviews the different science projects presented to him at the White House Science Fair, he blows a bubble from a wand made with a 3D printer by nine-year-old Jacob Leggette. It’s one of the surprising political photographs of the week, and so is Carlo Allegri’s photograph of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who is seen tossing his coat to the side. Frozen in time, the image embodies the candidate’s rough week as Trump faced more questions about his team’s preparedness.
