Zachary Quinto, who plays the role of Spock in the latest Star Trek films, told Stephen Colbert that actor Leonard Nimoy had a profound impact on his life.

Nimoy gave Spock life in the original Star Trek television series, reprising his role for cameos in the first two new films before passing away on Feb. 27, 2015.

“I’ve never met somebody who so fully embodied a sense of fulfillment in their life,” Quinto told Colbert on Feb. 23’s episode of The Late Show. “He was such a tremendous artist, but philanthropist and generous person, and so intelligent. I miss him all the time, I really miss him so much at this point obviously, marking the anniversary of his passing. He was one of the greatest gifts that my career has brought into my personal life.”

The third installment of the rebooted Star Trek film franchise, Star Trek Beyond, is due out on July 22.
