France Bans 3 Islamic Groups for Trying to ‘Incite Jihad’

The groups were taking action to incite jihad, according to authorities

France banned three Islamic associations that ran a mosque shuttered following the Nov. Paris attacks, interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Wednesday.

Stephane Le Foll, a government spokesman, said the groups were taking action to “incite jihad,” the AFP reports. “There is no place in the French Republic for groups which incite, and which call for terrorism or call for hate,” Cazeneuve said in his announcement.

According to AFP, the main group targeted in the bannings is called “Retour aux Sources,” which loosely translates as “Back to our roots.” The mosque at Lagny-sur-Marne was closed in December after 130 people were killed in coordinated shootings and suicide bombings in Paris in November. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attacks.
