“Mummy fall down the stairs. Mummy is asleep. Mummy’s head hurts. I’m giving her a cuddle"
An English 4-year-old received an award for bravery on Wednesday, to honor her quick thinking in calling an ambulance for her pregnant mother, who had fallen down the stairs.
In November, Emma Bazzard, then only 3 years old, discovered her mother Catherine unconscious in their Somerset home. She made a call to emergency services and spent 11 minutes on the phone, providing her mother’s name and their address, according to the Guardian.
“Mummy fall down the stairs,” she said during the call. “Mummy is asleep. Mummy’s head hurts. I’m giving her a cuddle.”
Sarah Morris, who received the emergency call, said Emma’s handling of the situation was impressive for any age. In addition to providing details of her mother’s condition, Emma made sure the home’s door was unlocked so that the emergency crew could get inside.
Paramedics prevented Emma’s mother from going into early labor, and baby George was born two and a half weeks ago.
Emma was presented with a bravery certificate by South Western ambulance service NHS foundation trust on Wednesday.
