It basically comes down to run and hide

Following the deadly terror attack in Paris Friday, the United Kingdom’s National Counter Terrorism Security Office published new guidelines on what to do during an attack.

During “terrorist firearms and weapons attacks,” as the guidelines call them, people should first attempt to run away. “Escape if you can,” the suggestions say. “Insist others leave with you [and] leave belongings behind.”

If there isn’t a safe way to escape, the next course of action is to hide. “If you can see the attacker, they may be able to see you,” the guidelines warn, “cover from view does not mean you are safe, bullets go through glass, brick, wood and metal.” They also say to silence your cell phone and try to barricade yourself in somewhere.
