Pope Francis visited a new homeless shelter for men near St. Peter’s Square within days of the facility opening its doors.

The Thursday evening visit, shown in the above video, lasted about 20 minutes as Francis spoke with the shelter’s volunteers and about 30 current residents, the Associated Press reports.

Monsignor Konrad Krajewski oversaw the shelter’s opening on Oct. 7 in a Jesuit-owned building near the Vatican. The operation is the newest action in an ongoing effort to help the homeless.
