Bernie Sanders has also made new inroads against Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
Neurosurgeon Ben Carson is deadlocked with billionaire Donald Trump in the race for GOP presidential nomination, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
Carson attracted support from 20% of Republican primary voters, just behind Trump’s 21%. Businesswoman Carly Fiorina and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio have both made inroads in the race for their party’s nomination. Both attracted 11% support in the new poll.
The new poll is the latest to suggest a realignment in the GOP field following the party’s debate earlier this month and the exit of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Commentators hailed the performances of Fiorina and Rubio and poll results have reflected that.
In the race for the Democratic nomination, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has made new inroads against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Sanders trails Clinton by 15 percentage points, compared to 34 points in July.
The survey of 1,000 adults, conducted Sept. 20-24, had a margin of error of plus or minus 6.46 percentage points for Republicans and 6.13 percentage points for Democrats.
