But some other Confederate statues will remain

The University of Texas will move a statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis from its current place in the center of the school’s Austin campus, officials announced Thursday.

The Davis statue has been a target of increased scrutiny in the wake of the massacre of congregants at a historically black church in Charleston, S.C., in June, the Associated Press reports.

University of Texas President Greg Fenves said the statue would be moved to the school’s Dolph Briscoe Center for American History.

However, statues of other Confederate figures will remain near the university’s central clock tower.
