In a clip from the new documentary Amy
The highly anticipated Amy Winehouse documentary Amy is in select theaters now (and opening worldwide July 10), so if you haven’t seen it yet, this clip offers a sneak peek.
The three-minute video shows Winehouse recording “Back to Black” with producer Mark Ronson in a New York City studio in March, 2006. You’ll see her belting the song perfectly, effortlessly, without musical accompaniment.
“It was just one of those serendipitous things. I just caught her at that magic moment, and she was just ready to get it going,” Ronson says in the clip. “That’s why I couldn’t understand what everyone else was saying about this procrastinating, troubled artist.”
The clip also offers Winehouse’s own reflections on recording this tune: “”I had these feelings, these words floating around in me. When you write a song, you have to remember how you felt. You might have to remember what the weather was like. You might have to remember what his neck smelled like. You have to remember all of it.”
