In an open letter posted Sunday, Torrey Smith confirmed that his time with the Baltimore Ravens is over, marking the end to a four-year stint that included a Super Bowl XLVII championship in 2013.
In a humble, gracious blog post, Smith thanked the organization for helping him “grow as a player, and more importantly, as a man.”
“I will be playing for a different organization, but I will remain committed to the City of Baltimore. I will continue to give back and help build a better future for our young men and women,” wrote the 26-year-old.
Besides the Super Bowl, Baltimore won two division titles with Smith and last year made the playoffs, winning their Wild Card match-up with the Pittsburg Steelers before losing to eventual champions the New England Patriots.
Smith is a big play receiver with blazing speed, who at times appeared to have the potential to become the best receiver in the team. But he has the propensity to disappear; never posting more than six catches in a game last year, according to Sports Illustrated statistics.
He had 49 catches for 767 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2014.
Smith, born in Richmond, Va., attended the University of Maryland before being drafted by Baltimore in 2011.
