Joan Didion Is the New Face of Céline

We knew this day would come

Literary icon and permanent cool-girl Joan Didion is in the new ad for the high-end fashion house, Céline, to the delight and chagrin of all the English majors who can’t afford to buy Céline.

The diminutive octogenarian writer, most famous for her 1968 essay collection Slouching Towards Bethlehem and her 2005 memoir The Year of Magical Thinking, is shown wearing her trademark big-frame black sunglasses and stylish bob, plus a tight-lipped smirk. Because when you’ve just turned 80, you have a National Humanities Medal, and you’re one of America’s greatest living writers, you might get a kick out of being the face of Céline.

If you love Didion but can’t afford Céline, never fear. A documentary about Joan Didion, called We Tell Ourselves Stories in Order to Live just received over twice the funding it requested on Kickstarter, which means soon you’ll be able to experience full Didion without breaking the bank.
