Twelfth-ranked Harvard beat fifth-ranked Cincinnati 61-57, the second March Madness win ever for the Ivy League school
March Madness is quite mad indeed. On the first day of the tournament, there have already been two big upsets: Dayton beat Ohio State, and now 12-ranked Harvard has beaten fifth-ranked Cincinnati 61-57.
Harvard led for almost the entire game, holding off Cincinnati with a series of clutch free throws in the final minute of regulation.
Harvard had its first tournament win in the history of the school last year when it upset New Mexico as a 14th seed. Even though basketball fan President Barack Obama threw his support behind Harvard in the tournament, few expected a repeat of last year’s stunner.
Harvard will play the winner of the Michigan State-Delaware game on Saturday.
