Here are the stories TIME is watching this Wednesday, June 18.

While ISIS militants attacks the largest oil refinery in Iraq, the U.S. tries to decide what action to take in the Middle East.

America did score one victory against terrorism by capturing the ringleader behind the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, who will be brought stateside to face justice.

Georgia and Missouri performed the first executions after Oklahoma’s botched execution in May. Another lethal injection, in Florida, is scheduled for Wednesday evening.

And finally, a new Picasso painting was found … under an old one. A portrait of a man with a bow tie was discovered underneath ‘The Blue Room.’

The Brief is published daily on weekdays.
